Are you planning to exercise in 2015? If so, you may want to seriously reconsider.

Take a look at the cold, hard facts:

  • Weight-loss has been the number one New Year’s Resolution in the U.S. for several years, and I’m sure 2015 will be no different. However, only 46% of those people kept their resolutions beyond 6 months and only 8% actually achieved their goals!

You see, success is a mindset that very few have. We all have the same 24 hours in the day, but only a select few have the mental discipline to truly change their circumstances.

If you plan on making a health, fitness and/or weigh loss resolution, we are here to help you shift your mindset and join that top 8%. We encourage you to stop exercising and start TRAINING. What’s the big difference? A lot!

Coach Mark Rippetoe, one of the most respected strength and conditioning coaches in our industry, defines the difference between exercising and training:

Exercise is physical activity for its own sake, a workout done for the effect it produces today, during the workout or right after you’re through.” [By the way, this is certainly better than sitting on your couch watching TV]

Training is physical activity done with a longer-term goal in mind, the constituent workouts of which are specifically designed to produce that goal.

Exercise is fun today. Well, it may not be fun, but you’ve convinced yourself to do it today because you perceive that the effect you produce today is of benefit to you today.

In contrast, training is about the process you undertake to generate a specific result later, maybe much later, the workouts of which are merely the constituents of the process.

Training Program Considerations

One of the truly unique things about the Powered By You Training Studio is our approach to program scheduling. While many programs may design their workouts week-to-week or even day-to-day, we design our workouts for a minimum of 12 weeks. Every workout is pre-programmed out to ensure a proper training “flow” which provides our clients the best possible results that last a lifetime.

This process is referred to as periodization. Periodization employs phase-specific variations of training, each with a specific goal or training adaptation. Periodization systematically overloads the body to create a desired physical change while balancing work and rest to avoid overtraining, burnout, and/or injury.

In addition to programming for each individual’s long and short-term goals, the experts at the PBY Training Studio also take into account any past or current injuries, overuse or poor movement patterns caused by repeated daily activities (like working on a computer or sitting at a desk all day), availability (and motivation!) both to work out with your trainer and also at home or at a gym, your schedule, and your budget.

How Do You Get Started?

We have a lot of options! The PBY Training Studio is not a gym and no memberships are required, everyone here is working with a trainer on a personal goal. If you have a very specific objective, special situation, and/or prefer individual, private training sessions we offer that in either 30 or 60-minute sessions.

If you prefer to train with a partner or small group, we offer that as well – with the same great benefits of working one-on-one with a personal trainer. Our groups are small to keep it personal and may include 2-6 people. To read more about the benefits of small group training and how it works, check out our blog post on The Benefits of Small Group Training.

We are also excited to announce 3 new small group classes and 2 new 12-week Challenges to make figuring out your training stress-free. You simply choose the program that fits with your goals and then just show up! Online registration will be open by the end of January 2015.
